LVL - Laminated Veneered Lumber:
LVL stands for Laminated Veneered Lumber and, as the name suggests, it is manufactured by gluing together veneers peeled from logs, usually 3mm thick, to make various thicknesses of finished product which can be cut to size.
LVL made from veneers with the grain parallel in each veneer are cut to form beams which are very strong and stable.
When required, a percentage of veneers run perpendicular to the main spanning direction to produce wider boards with height strength, straightness and dimensional stability. As well as being used as decking, where the thickness can be built up to allow wider spacing between supports, the boards can be cut to shape forming deep rafters with pitched top edges or curves.
Combining the beams and panels to make floor and roof cassettes can assist in speeding up installation.
