From Certified Forests:

Why is the certification of the forest important?

Forests have been described as the lungs of the earth. As trees grow, they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere helping to counteract the increase of emissions from human activity. The captured carbon is retained but the intake reduces dramatically when the tree reaches maturity.

To achieve certification, the forest must be regenerated when mature trees are felled by planting young saplings hungry for carbon dioxide to help them develop and grow.

We all hear about the problems of deforestation and its impact on the environment. The problem is mainly due to illegal and uncontrolled removal of forests. Certification proves the timber being used in all our products comes from legal, controlled forests which help, rather than hinder, tackling the environmental challenges faced worldwide today.

All timber supplied by ETS comes from certified forests and carries PEFC chain of custody from forest to your project.

To Strength Graded Timber:

After felling, logs are initially selected for their final purpose – some for pulping and some for sawing to timber sections.

Once sawn into sections, timber is graded either aesthetically or structurally. By using the higher-grade structural members in Engineered Timber Components, it is possible to minimise the volume of timber used and the section size of the finished components. This, in turn, minimises the weight of Engineered Timber Structures, ease of transport and installation.

To Engineered Products:

When you specify Engineered Timber products for your project you can rest assured that you are using a natural, renewable raw material with high environmental credentials.

As well as being a natural carbon store, Engineered Timber products require much less energy to produce than equivalent strength steel or concrete structures which saves on carbon emissions.

The resultant structure will be lighter, allowing possible savings on foundations and ease of transport and installation – all further assistance to the environment.

All well as the benefits to the environment in general, timber brings a warmth and beauty to the built environment and security due to predictable reaction to chemicals and fire.

Glulam

Fundamentally, Glulam is big pieces of wood made by gluing smaller pieces together, but it has many advantages over large solid sections. Each piece of timber used in making Glulam is strength graded and moisture checked...

CLT

Manufactured from timber boards in bonded layers with the boards running perpendicular to those of the adjoining layer to form panels. This provides a very strong and stable final product which can be used as floor panels, roof panels and walls...

LVL

LVL stands for Laminated Veneered Lumber and, as the name suggests, it if manufactured by gluing together veneers peeled from logs, usually 3mm thick, to make various thicknesses of finished product which can be cut to size...

What We Do:

We offer a fully encompassing service for Engineered Timber Structures to the construction industry including the design, supply and, where suitable, the installation of principal structures in a variety of engineered timber components such as Glulam, Laminated Veneered Lumber (LVL) & Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). The package supplied includes all necessary connections and bespoke fabrications.

How We Deliver It:

Using our broad section of specialist manufacturers throughout Central Europe and Scandinavia, we are able to source an unsurpassed range of materials. We design the structures to maximise the cost efficiency of the chosen material and are able to offer in-house machining where necessary.
